Germany's Hensoldt secures significant contract for military equipment with Ukraine
In a significant development, German defense contractor Hensoldt has secured a contract worth over €340 million to supply advanced radar systems to Ukraine, aiming to enhance its air defense capabilities against Russian aerial threats.
The contract includes the delivery of two types of radars:
- The TRML-4D radars, which employ Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology. These radars can track up to 1,500 targets concurrently at ranges up to 250 km, enabling the detection and classification of cruise missiles, drones, aircraft, and helicopters.
- The SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII short-range radars, which provide automatic detection and classification of ground, sea, and low-flying aerial targets.
Hensoldt's CEO, Oliver Dörr, emphasized the urgent need and pride in supplying these systems, which have been operational in Ukraine since the start of Russia’s invasion. Initial deliveries began in October 2022, with four TRML-4D radars integrated into Ukraine's IRIS-T air defense systems. Further deliveries are scheduled, with six more TRML-4D units planned by the end of 2024 under this major contract.
This radar supply forms part of Germany’s broader military support to Ukraine and represents a crucial boost to air defense measures protecting Ukrainian citizens from drones, missiles, and aircraft.
Looking ahead, Hensoldt maintains ongoing development in air defense radar technology and seems poised to continue supporting Ukraine’s defenses with advanced systems as required. The sustained deliveries and expansion of radar coverage indicate a long-term strategic engagement, although no specific contract extensions beyond 2024 have been publicly detailed yet.
Investment analysts at AKTIONÄR currently recommend Hensoldt's stock, and since their recommendation in May, investors have already seen a 33% gain in Hensoldt's stock. However, Hensoldt's stock has not yet benefited from the recent news at the close of the week, trading 1.2% down at €98.20.
