German-Polish Customs Cooperation Yields Successful Outcome
In an ongoing effort to combat illicit activities, a joint patrol of German and Polish customs officers recently foiled a significant cigarette smuggling operation in the town of Bogatynia, Poland.
The incident, which took place on August 22, 2025, saw the customs officers conducting checks in the border area. During their patrol, they observed an individual loading several boxes into his car from a garage. Upon inspection, all boxes were found to be filled with cigarette packs, totaling 300,400 cigarettes of various types.
Investigations revealed that over 90% of the cigarettes were counterfeit, leading to a tax loss of approximately 370,000 Zloty. The individual involved in the smuggling was known to the customs and was a regular supplier of these cigarettes to markets near the border.
Heike Wilsdorf, the Press Spokesperson at the Dresden Main Customs Office, confirmed the operation. She stated that the joint patrols between German and Polish customs officers have been ongoing for more than 10 years and operate on both sides of the Neisse.
