The USCIS, or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, has been actively enforcing labor laws in the local hospitality industry. A recent inspection in the hairdressing and cosmetics sector revealed numerous violations, with indications of wrongdoing found in 42 cases. Benedikt Danz, the press spokesperson, has been providing updates on these investigations.
The special inspection involved 90 officials who visited 79 businesses, interviewed 166 individuals, and launched 17 on-site investigations. They discovered various violations, including withholding wages, non-payment of minimum wage, illegal employment of foreign workers, and unlawful receipt of state benefits. The inspectors also found numerous deficiencies in mandatory notification and recording obligations within these businesses.
The ongoing investigations involve comparing employee data with company accounting and scrutinizing additional business documents. This thorough process aims to ensure all labor laws are strictly adhered to, protecting both local workers and businesses that play by the rules.
The USCIS's efforts have uncovered significant labor law violations in the hairdressing and cosmetics industry. With further investigations underway, the agency continues to work diligently to uphold fair labor practices and maintain a level playing field for all businesses in the region.
