Genesis Unveils First EREV, GV70 EREV, in December 2026
Genesis has started developing its first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), the GV70 EREV. This new model is set to debut globally in December 2026, with an estimated full range of 900km (560 miles). The GV70 EREV marks a significant step in Genesis' electrification journey, aiming to become a fully electric brand by 2030.
The GV70 EREV will compete in the premium SUV segment, going up against established brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Maserati in the Swiss market. It will also rival other premium EREV and PHEV models such as the BMW X5 xDrive50e, Volvo XC60 Recharge, Lexus RX 500h, and Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring. Genesis is betting on its elegant design, premium craftsmanship, and advanced tech to differentiate the GV70 EREV.
An EREV like the GV70 EREV primarily runs on electric power, with a small gasoline engine acting as a generator to recharge the battery when needed. This setup allows the GV70 EREV to bridge the gap between full EVs and traditional hybrids, offering electric efficiency for daily driving and gasoline backup for longer journeys. The GV70 EREV is expected to initially target key markets like North America, South Korea, and parts of Europe.
