Xbox Games Showcase 2025 Shines Spotlight on ASUS ROG Xbox Ally Gaming Handhelds 🎮💻

Gaming aficionado finds Xbox Ally handheld promising, yet hindered by a single flaw.

The Lowdown: The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 had its fair share of gaming goodness, but it was the sudden revelation of the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally handhelds that truly stole the spotlight.

As a fan of the ASUS ROG Ally (and especially the ASUS ROG Ally X), I found myself intrigued by this collaboration between Microsoft and ASUS. However, one aspect of the hardware left me a tad underwhelmed.

Exciting July '25 Hardware Announcement 🌟

Pitted against the original ROG Ally and the current handheld champ, the ROG Ally X, the Xbox Ally lineup is brimming with updates, improvements, and modifications. Yet, one area remains untouched—the display.

To make it clear, I'm not talking about a subpar display. It's a 7-inch, 16:9 aspect ratio screen with a 120Hz variable refresh rate that delivers solid performance and image quality. But in the realm of gaming handhelds, it's not top-tier.

Ideally, I'd have loved to see some upgrades, perhaps a larger, more vibrant IPS LCD display akin to what the Lenovo Legion Go S flaunts. Though pricier handhelds like the Xbox Ally X might have benefited, it's the entry-level Xbox Ally that requires thoughtful pricing to win over the masses.

Not All Doom and Gloom 🌱

Despite the display shortcomings, ASUS and Microsoft's partnership is viewed as a crucial step in making PC gaming more accessible and enjoyable for all. The Xbox Ally marks Microsoft's commitment to streamlining Windows 11 for gaming-specific hardware, potentially transforming the entire handheld gaming market.

Early impressions are overwhelmingly positive, and with the Xbox Ally paving the way, all PC gaming handhelds could soon outshine their current status.

Even though I might've wished for broader hardware enhancements, I'll undoubtedly snag an Xbox Ally to witness this future firsthand. One can't help but miss my Lenovo Legion Go S's gleaming 8-inch display when gaming on my ROG Ally X. Given the Xbox Ally X's likely high price point, a display upgrade would've sealed the deal.

  1. The Xbox Ally, a collaboration between ASUS and Microsoft, is equipped with updates, improvements, and modifications, but it could benefit from an upgrade in the display department, such as a larger, more vibrant IPS LCD display.
  2. The Xbox Ally, with its 7-inch, 120Hz variable refresh rate screen, is not the top display in the realm of gaming handhelds; ideally, it could match the display quality of the Lenovo Legion Go S.
  3. The Xbox Ally marks a significant step in making PC gaming more accessible and enjoyable for all, as Microsoft is committing to streamlining Windows 11 for gaming-specific hardware.
  4. Although the Xbox Ally's display could use some enhancement, the partnership between ASUS and Microsoft has the potential to revolutionize the entire handheld gaming market.
  5. Despite the desire for broader hardware upgrades, the Xbox Ally's upcoming release promises exciting gaming experiences that make it an appealing addition to anyone's collection.
  6. As a gadget enthusiast, I'll be keen to evaluate the Xbox Ally's gaming capabilities firsthand, even though I still pine for the Lenovo Legion Go S's larger, more vibrant display on my current handheld device.
