Fresh Glimpse at Modern Reimagining of Stephen King's Salem's Lot Adaptation

Unleash the Terror from 1979's Jersey's Lot!

The long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King's Salem's Lot, a movie that left the author frustrated with its delays, is nearly upon us. With a release date on Max this October, this modern take on the classic vampire tale promises to be a thrilling ride!

In an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, horror maestro Gary Dauberman, who's known for his work on the Annabelle series, The Nun, and It, opens up about his vision for Salem's Lot. Dauberman, who has a penchant for setting his movies in the 70s, discussed his fascination with the era's music, costumes, and overall vibe.

"Most of my stuff is set in the 70s," he confessed to Vanity Fair. "I love the music. I do love the costumes. I just love the vibe of it." But it's not just the look of the film that Dauberman strives to capture—he also aims to evoke the wild spirit of 70s grindhouse movies, as demonstrated by the inclusion of a Sugar Hill poster in the production design.

Dauberman explains, "You could do a very dry version of this movie, but that's just not my personality. It's trying to ride that wave's ups and downs. You're having fun with it, and then you can have a scare, and then you're having fun again. Hopefully, it feels like a complete ride at the end."

The casting includes Alfre Woodard, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, Spencer Treat Clark, and John Benjamin Hickey. Salem's Lot has previously been adapted into a 1979 TV miniseries by Tobe Hooper, starring David Soul and James Mason, as well as a 2004 miniseries by Mikael Salomon, featuring Rob Lowe, Donald Sutherland, and Rutger Hauer.
