Ford's pioneering all-electric Bronco has made its debut, regrettably omitting the U.S. market.

In a significant move, Ford is set to introduce its electrified Ford Bronco New Energy exclusively in the Chinese market. The iconic sports-utility vehicle, first conceived in 1966 as America's first SUV, is making a comeback after four years, with an electric twist.

The Ford Bronco New Energy will be available in two powertrain options: a pure EV variant and an extended-range model. The pure EV variant boasts a battery capacity of 105.4 kWh, promising a range of 404 miles (on China's CLTC cycle), while the extended-range model combines a 43.7-kWh battery with a 1.5-liter range-extender engine, offering 137 miles of electric-only driving and up to 758 miles total.

The extended-range model, specifically, has a power output of 241hp, and the pure EV variant maintains the same 271hp as the standard model. The vehicle's wheelbase measures 116.1 inches, and it weighs approximately 5,800 lbs for the EV version and 5,535 lbs for the extended-range model (EREV).

The Ford Bronco New Energy's design is as impressive as its performance. The vehicle looks absolutely stellar, with a lidar sensor mounted up top alongside 30+ additional sensors and cameras. It will be available through Ford's joint venture with Jiangling Motors in China.

The launch in China is strategic, with China's aggressive policies to promote electric vehicles creating a strong demand for such models. The U.S. tariffs on Chinese-made vehicles and the economics of exporting vehicles from China to the U.S. also contribute to the decision to launch the Bronco New Energy in China first.

Although there are no immediate plans to release the Bronco New Energy in the U.S., the launch in China could serve as a precursor or test for future electrified models in the U.S. market. The Ford Bronco has maintained a pioneering spirit throughout five generations, and it seems this spirit continues with the electrified Bronco New Energy.

The Ford Bronco New Energy is expected to be priced between $42,000 and $56,000 in China, making it an affordable option for many consumers in the growing electric vehicle market. With its pioneering spirit, impressive performance, and competitive pricing, the Ford Bronco New Energy is set to make waves in China's electric vehicle landscape.
