Express Entry Draws Resurgent in May with New Categories and More ITAs

After a lull in April, Express Entry draws have seen a resurgence in May, with four draws taking place. This uptick in activity follows a period of quieter draws and comes with notable changes in candidate selection and scores.

May's draws marked a return to form for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), which hadn't been held since February. A total of 2,511 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were issued across these draws, more than double the number issued in April. This increase, however, remains significantly lower than the numbers seen in the first quarter of the year.

The month also saw a shift in the type of draws held. After March and April's pattern of alternating between French proficiency and Provincial Nominee draws, May introduced new categories. The first-ever Education category based selection draw and the first Healthcare and social services category based selection draw of 2025 took place.

The current distribution of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores shows a concentration of candidates in the 501-600 range, with 91.02% to 99.99% falling within this bracket. The number of candidates in the 601-1200 range has decreased to 28 as of May 13, 2025. This shift suggests a narrowing of the CRS score gap among candidates.

As of May 13, 2025, there are 250,082 candidate profiles in the Express Entry pool, an increase of 3,409 compared to April 27. This growth indicates a continued interest and participation in the Express Entry system.

May's Express Entry draws brought a welcome increase in activity, with a return to four draws and the introduction of new selection categories. The month also saw a significant increase in the number of ITAs issued and a shift in the distribution of CRS scores. As we move into June, candidates and stakeholders await further updates and draws, with no publicly available details or records for June 2025 as of now.
