Experimental virtual guitar instrument created by Slate + Ash, in collaboration with Sunn O)))'s Stephen O'Malley, explores decay, tactility, and spatial dynamics in electric guitar music.

In the heart of Bristol, sound studio Slate + Ash has released a groundbreaking new product, the guitar-based Kontakt instrument "Ruins". This innovative tool is designed to transform guitars into a kaleidoscope of experimental soundscapes.

The instrument boasts a custom engine that offers deep sound manipulation and sequencing capabilities, all rooted in guitar textures and avant-garde sonic treatments. It comes equipped with five tracks, each featuring an algorithmic sequencer, a polyphonic sound engine, an audio effects chain, and a dedicated XY touchpad for expressive control.

"Ruins" runs on the Kontakt Player, compatible with version 7.10.7 or higher, and includes the free Kontakt Player itself. It is supported on Intel Macs (i5 or higher) with macOS 10.15 or above, and Windows PCs (Core i3 or higher) with Windows 10 or above.

The library was meticulously recorded from six avant-garde players, including Sunn O)))'s Stephen O'Malley, Oren Ambarchi, David Torn, Bill Horist, Ben Greenberg, and Arjan Miranda. Each performance was recorded using multiple mic positions and treatments, resulting in a vast collection of 4,636 sounds. These sounds are divided into single and multi-samples, providing a rich sonic palette for creators.

"Ruins" comes with 250 curated presets for immediate use, making it an ideal tool for both beginners and seasoned sound designers. The audio effects available include delay, reverb, filter, modulation, and tape emulation, allowing for a wide range of sonic possibilities.

The playback engine features a multi-loop system that allows for asynchronous repetition, granular manipulation, and deep modulation, offering endless opportunities for experimentation. The samples are categorized by both the performer and the sound's tonal properties, making navigation and discovery seamless.

Randall Dunn, a producer, engineer, and musician known for his work with Sunn O)), Thurston Moore, Boris, Wolves in the Throne Room, and various film and television projects, curated and produced "Ruins" at his Williamsburg studio Circular Ruin.

"Ruins" is available at an introductory price of £179. More information about "Ruins" can be found on Slate + Ash's website, and a preset demo is available for viewing. The instrument is compatible with macOS and Windows, making it accessible to a wide range of creators. With its versatile features and extensive sound library, "Ruins" is poised to become a valuable tool for creative sound design based on guitar samples.

Technology enables the operation of "Ruins", an innovative guitar-based Kontakt instrument, which offers deep sound manipulation and sequencing capabilities, transforming guitars into experimental soundscapes. This tool, designed for music creation, comes with a vast collection of 4,636 sounds, catering to both beginners and seasoned sound designers in the world of entertainment.
