Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Camera Issues: Purple Moon Photos Resolved in One UI 8 Beta 5 Update

Users of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra have been encountering camera issues after the Android update to One UI 8 Beta, based on Android 16. Specifically, photos of the moon taken at various zoom levels (10x to 100x) have been displaying a purple or pink tint, despite the camera preview showing normal colours.

The root cause of this problem appears to be a software bug affecting white balance and colour correction during final photo rendering. Notebookcheck specialists suspect this issue might be related to a white balance setting error.

Samsung acknowledged the problem after user complaints and provided a fix in the One UI 8 Beta 5 update (ZYH6). This update patches the purple moon bug by improving how Space Zoom and image processing handle lunar photos, restoring the expected natural colour appearance.

In addition to the moon-specific bug, user discussions suggest other photo quality concerns, such as AI smoothing or "Gemini AI" photo assist features, that impact final image quality. Disabling AI smoothing or photo assist in settings can help improve overall photo fidelity.

For those experiencing similar camera issues, updating the device software through the Samsung Members app or system update is recommended to receive the bug fix promptly.

It is worth noting that the stable One UI 8 release is expected in September 2025, which should include the fix.

In March 2023, Galaxy S23 users accused Samsung of generating Moon images using neural networks, a claim that was also made against Huawei in 2019. However, this issue seems to have started after installing the One UI 8 firmware based on Android 16.

As of now, Samsung representatives have not yet responded to the camera issue.
