Don't Laugh at Deepfakes: Understand the Danger of Sexualized Manipulated Media

Join us on February 20th, at 4 PM, for a thought-provoking lecture titled "The Power of Images: Sexualized Violence through Deepfakes," followed by a panel discussion. The guest speaker will be Chris Köver, an editor at netzpolitik.org. Hosted by the Central Office of the State Commissioners (ZGF), this event aims to shed light on the risqué and harmful world of deepfakes.

Once dismissed as amusing Internet pranks, deepfakes—elaborate or forged images, audio recordings, or videos created with AI—have become a growing concern, particularly when it comes to pornographic content. Faces, bodily features, and voices are manipulated without the consent of the individuals involved.

According to ZGF, sexualized deepfakes disproportionately impact women and girls. Private individuals, celebrities, politicians, and journalists alike can find themselves targets of this insidious form of digital violence. The consequences for victims can range from emotional distress, such as fear and shame, to social and professional discrimination.

Deepfake Implications and Safety Measures

During the lecture, our guest speaker, Chris Köver, will discuss the aspects that facilitate the creation of deepfakes and the types of deepfakes currently circulating. Following the lecture, a panel discussion with experts will delve into the impacts of pornographic deepfakes, legal frameworks, and safety measures for victims. The panel will also explore ways to curb the spread of such content.

Open to All - No Registration Required

This event is part of the series "#ERROR - Digitalization: Gender Equality Error Message" and will take place at the ZGF, Faulenstraße 14-18, 28195 Bremen. Attendance is free, and registration is not necessary.
