Examined and Documented: Actual Weight, Dimensions, and Sizing of Transition's Latest Regulator Model
Hardcore Bike Breakdown: Transition Regulator CX XT's Weigh-In
In the limelight The Transition Regulator CX hit the market last week, a new e-bike boasting 150mm travel, a Bosch CX Gen 5 Performance motor, and a killer geometry and sizing. I got my hands on this bad boy to see if the stats stack up. Here's the lowdown...
Shocking WeightThe Transition Regulator CX XT e-bike claimed weight of 21.3kg in size medium left me curious. So, when a size large showed up, it didn't take long to jump on the scales. To my surprise, it came in at a cool 21.5kg, 200g heavier than expected. Despite the extra material needed for a larger frame, the bike shocked me with its featherweight status for a full-power e-bike - beating out competitors like the Santa Cruz Vala and DJI-powered Amflow PL Carbon Pro.
Heading StraightTransition claimed a head angle of 64° in the low setting and 64.5° in the high setting, but my measurements showed a variance of 0.3°, coming in steeper than stated. Mild discrepancies can occur in build, machining, and component variations, even on carbon bikes.
Bottom Bracket MysteryThe BB height is crucial, and the Repeater hits the spot at 348mm in the high setting, with a 2mm discrepancy compared to Transition's claims - only 1mm more in the low setting. However, sag and rider weight can affect the real-world BB height while riding, and I was left wondering if a minor adjustment could significantly improve stability.
Reach for MoreReach, often considered the best indicator of bike fit, accounts for variation in seat tube angles. The Regulator, with a 485mm reach, is right in line with modern all-mountain bikes and appropriate for a size large. With limited sizes to choose from, however, taller riders may struggle to find a perfect fit.
Traveling DepthsTransition boasts 150mm rear wheel travel, which my measurements confirmed, albeit 4mm shorter than claimed. A big hydraulic bottom-out bumper in the new RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate shock makes it likely the bike will achieve full travel while riding.
Big and GraverSplitting the bike in half, I measured a 7mm longer front center, a 2mm shorter chainstay, and a slightly longer wheelbase compared to factory claims. In the high setting, the wheelbase is a substantial 1,276mm, making the Regulator a hefty bike, comparable to Whyte's Elyte Evo Stag Works e-bike.
In the realm of tech-driven lifestyle, the Transition Regulator CX's surprising featherweight status, beating competitor gadgets like the Santa Cruz Vala and DJI-powered Amflow PL Carbon Pro, comes as a surprising advantage in the world of electric-vehicles. Despite variations in head angle and bottom bracket height, the Regulator keeps up with the latest advancements in gadgetry and automobile technology, particularly in its remarkable travel depths with the 150mm rear wheel travel and Big and Graver design elements.
