Erfurt's Löbervorstadt District Gets Cycling Boost with New Routes and Safety Improvements
Erfurt's city council is implementing a series of improvements to enhance cycling infrastructure, particularly in the Löbervorstadt district. The 'right-before-left' rule is being applied to benefit cyclists turning into Goethestraße.
The Löberstraße, located in the historic Löbervorstadt district, was once home to poorer residents and craftsmen, including tanners known as 'Löber'. Now, cyclists can enjoy a new route connecting the city park and the train station or the Lahn. The district is seeing several changes: a central island for crossing Berliner Platz, a bike street in Roonstraße, signalized crossings, and an opened one-way street section on Alienstraße. Cyclists from Berliner Platz can now pass through without turning onto Bismarckstraße and then into Lonystraße. Parking spaces are being rearranged to improve visibility for all road users, with some moved to Lonystraße. The city council aims to reduce car distances by promoting cycling as an eco-friendly option, making short distances more attractive for cycling.
Erfurt's city council is transforming the Löbervorstadt district to prioritize cycling. By improving cycling routes, creating bike streets, and enhancing safety, the city aims to reduce car usage and promote cycling as a viable, environmentally friendly transport option.
