EPO President participates in ISIF'2025 conference held in Istanbul
President Campinos Visits ISIF in Istanbul, Reinforcing Partnership with TUŘKPATENT
President António Campinos of the European Patent Office (EPO) led a delegation to the 10th International Invention Fair (ISIF) in Istanbul, Turkey. The event, organised by TÜRKPATENT with support from the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology, took place alongside TEKNOFEST, a leading technology and aerospace event.
The purpose of the EPO delegation was to highlight the role of intellectual property in promoting innovation, commercializing inventions, and enabling technological development. The ISIF, which brings together inventors, investors, industry leaders, and intellectual property professionals from around the world, provided an ideal platform for this discussion.
During his visit, President Campinos toured the fair exhibition space, showcasing innovative projects supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBITAK). He also held talks with TÜRKPATENT President, Professor Zeki Durak, to reinforce bilateral cooperation under the EPO's Strategic Plan 2028 and deepen engagement within the EPO Observatory on Patents and Technology.
The discussions between the two Presidents also highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the EPO and TUŘKPATENT on AI-based tools to increase effectiveness and efficiency as well as patent quality. This collaboration underscores the EPO's role in promoting intellectual property rights protection and fostering technological progress, as outlined in its Strategic Plan 2028, Driver 4: Partnerships.
President Campinos' visit also included meetings with Minister Mehmet Kacır to discuss the EPO's and Türkiye's strategic priorities and effective support for smaller enterprises. During ISIF'25, several countries, including Laos, Morocco, Tunisia, Moldova, Cambodia, and Georgia, agreed on a strategic partnership concerning intellectual property protection and the promotion of technological progress through validation agreements with the European Patent Office (EPO), allowing streamlined patent validation processes without filing national applications.
The EPO's involvement in the ISIF reinforces its dedication to fostering innovation through intellectual property (IP) protection and enabling small businesses to commercialize their inventions more effectively. The visit underscored the ongoing collaboration between the EPO and TUŘKPATENT, particularly in the development of AI-based tools to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and patent quality.
In conclusion, President Campinos' visit to the ISIF in Istanbul reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between the EPO and TUŘKPATENT in promoting intellectual property rights protection and fostering technological progress. The event provided an excellent opportunity for discussions on IP, innovation, and collaboration, setting a strong foundation for future partnerships and initiatives.
