Enhancing the theater experience at Kennesaw State University with Epson technology
The Transformation of Kennesaw State University's Theater
The Dance Theater at Kennesaw State University, Georgia's largest undergraduate dance program, was seeking to elevate its theatrical atmosphere. The solution came in the form of Epson laser projection technology, which transformed the simple stage into a dynamic, engaging space.
Located on the Marietta campus, the theater takes pride in its state-of-the-art facilities, boasting the Epson EB-PU2216B projector. This projector boasts 16,000 lumens of both color and white brightness, ensuring breathtaking visual performances.
Colby Nordberg, lead technician for the dance department's theater, confirmed the benefits of this upgrade. Previously, multiple projectors were needed to maintain a blended projection surface for the entire stage. This old method was fragile, requiting constant maintenance for alignment. Now, the EB-PU2216B streamlines the approach, providing enhanced projections that are significantly brighter.
In a regional hub for dance and theater, the theatre offers professional-grade flooring, lighting, and AV technology. The 435-seat facility, specifically designed for dance, features a unique contemporary aesthetic. For live performances, the venue transforms using projection technology to create a unique experience for each performance.
Nordberg highlighted the importance of utilizing the entire stage for performers to hone their craft. The EB-PU2216B, paired with Epson's ultra-short throw lens, allows performers to get closer to the backwall and effectively use the stage space without casting shadows or worrying about the projector.
Features such as its internal mechanical shutter and adjustable fade time control are valuable for theater applications, according to Nordberg. Moreover, the EB-PU2216B's laser light source is quiet, and there are no lamps that need replacing, making it a cost-effective solution with low maintenance needs.
The high brightness of the EB-PU2216B has been a game-changer for Kennesaw State University's Dance Theater. The artistic vision can remain intact, as fewer sacrifices have to be made, and the projected images are not washed out or overpowered by stage lights.
Ramzi Shakra, senior product manager for Projection at Epson America, recognized the impact of the EB-PU2216B on performances: "Video projection in theatrical shows transforms a stage into a dynamic, engaging experience, enhancing every performance and captivating audiences in ways previously unimaginable."
Epson laser projection technology brings numerous benefits to both technical aspects and visual performance in theater and dance. Thanks to its brightness, resolution, and color accuracy, along with its versatility and reliability, this technology has become an essential tool for the Kennesaw State University Dance Theater.
Gadgets such as the Epson EB-PU2216B projector, featuring technology like internal mechanical shutters and ultra-short throw lenses, have revolutionized the Kennesaw State University Dance Theater by offering improved projections and stage utilization. This cutting-edge technology enables the theater to create engaging, dynamic performances that showcase both the artists and the technical aspects in breathtaking detail.
