Elon Musk's xAI Unveils Grokipedia, an Open Alternative to Wikipedia
Tech innovator Elon Musk has revealed plans for an alternative encyclopedia, Grokipedia, via his AI company X. Aiming to rival Wikipedia, Grokipedia promises wider source inclusion and a more open structure. Despite the September 2025 announcement, a specific launch date remains uncertain.
Grokipedia draws its name from X's chatbot, Grok, which recently sparked controversy due to anti-Semitic remarks. X attributed this to a programming error. Meanwhile, Musk has been critical of Wikipedia, accusing it of bias and lack of objectivity, particularly towards the left. He previously stated that Grok, the AI software, would be designed to seek the truth.
Musk's former colleague, David Sacks, now serving as the AI envoy under President Donald Trump, has also criticized Wikipedia. He argued that the platform's content is used to train AI software, raising concerns about potential biases in AI development.
Grokipedia, Elon Musk's alternative to Wikipedia, is currently under development by X. While it aims to provide a more open and flexible platform with broader source inclusion, no launch date has been confirmed. The project follows Musk's previous criticisms of Wikipedia's bias and his commitment to seeking truth through AI.
