Electric vehicle company Nio's Firefly model achieves its 10,000th delivery, with European shipments set to start imminently.
NIO's Firefly Brand Expands Globally, Deliveries Begin in Europe
NIO, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has made a significant stride in its global expansion with the launch of its Firefly brand. The brand was officially unveiled on December 21, 2024, and the first model, also named Firefly, was launched on April 19.
The Firefly model quickly gained traction, with deliveries beginning on April 29. In the first month alone, 231 units were delivered, and this number grew significantly in May with 3,680 units delivered. By the end of June, Firefly had delivered 3,932 units, marking a total of 10,000 cumulative deliveries by the end of the month. The 10,000th Firefly vehicle was officially delivered today.
Nio co-founder and president, Qin Lihong, announced that Firefly would launch in Europe between June and August. True to his word, NIO Inc has now started delivering Firefly vehicles in Europe, with the first deliveries taking place in Norway and the Netherlands on August 14, 2025. This marks the official rollout of the brand in Europe and the beginning of its global expansion.
The right-hand drive version of Firefly is set to be ready by October at the latest. This version will be crucial for the brand's expansion into markets outside of China, such as Europe. NIO plans to expand Firefly deliveries to additional European countries like Belgium, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, Portugal, and Greece by the end of 2025.
In addition to its European expansion, NIO also announced that the BaaS (battery as a service) purchase option for the Firefly model became available on June 24. This option lowers the purchase threshold to RMB 79,800, but consumers need to pay a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 399.
Partnering with HERE Technologies for overseas map data, Firefly is well-equipped for its global journey. As NIO continues to expand, the Firefly brand is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market.
