Electric sedan Leapmotor B01 manufacturing exceeds 10,000 units within the opening week of its market release.

Leapmotor, a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is expanding its portfolio with the introduction of the D-series lineup, led by a full-size SUV priced around RMB 300,000 ($41,800). This new model is expected to cater to a higher-priced market segment, marking a strategic move for the company.

The D-series full-size SUV will be Leapmotor’s largest offering in the Chinese market this year, and it is anticipated to provide both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) powertrain options, in line with the company’s existing models.

Positioned as Leapmotor's flagship model, the D-series SUV aims to compete in the premium EV segment, distinguishing itself from the company's earlier C-series and B-series vehicles. Senior executives, including COO Xu Jun, have confirmed that this will be the first flagship full-size SUV in the new series.

The price point of RMB 300,000 places the SUV in a higher market bracket compared to Leapmotor's prior models, reflecting the company's ambitions for the D-series.

The D-series launch follows the success and growing sales of Leapmotor's B-series, notably the B01 and B10 models, which utilise Leapmotor’s LEAP 3.5 platform—an architecture supporting both BEV and range-extender options and featuring advanced battery technology.

Meanwhile, the Leapmotor B01, another recent addition to the B-series, has garnered significant attention. The B01 was launched on July 24 with a starting price of RMB 89,800 ($12,510), and over 70 percent of the first batch of customers opted for the 650-kilometer long-range version. Moreover, 72 percent of the first batch of B01 users are under 35 years old.

In a remarkable feat, the B01 production set a new speed record for Leapmotor, and it has already rolled off the production line for the 10,000th time, although the specific date is not provided.

Leapmotor's current lineup in China includes the T03, B01, B10, C01, C10, C11, and C16 models, with the T03, B01, and B10 available only as BEV variants, while the other models are also available as EREV variants. The B01 comes in six variants, with different CLTC ranges and some equipped with LiDAR.

The most popular version of the B01 is the 650-km range model with LiDAR, which is the highest-spec version of the B01. In a notable achievement, the B01 received 10,132 locked-in orders within 72 hours of its launch.

Leapmotor delivered 48,006 vehicles in June, marking a record high for the second consecutive month. The company's strategic moves, such as the launch of the D-series lineup, indicate a commitment to expanding its presence in the EV market.
