In the rapidly evolving electric vehicle (EV) market of China, local companies are making significant strides, while joint ventures are playing catch-up. One such joint venture, between BYD and Toyota, has recently introduced the Toyota bZ3, an all-electric sedan that promises to shake up the market.

The Toyota bZ3, priced at approximately ¥199,800 (around $28,339 USD) in China, is set to be more affordable than BYD's all-electric Han EV but slightly pricier than the hybrid model Destroyer 05. The 2024 model of the bZ3 sees a slight price reduction to ¥189,800 (around $26,425 USD).

The bZ3 is powered by blade batteries and motors supplied by BYD. It boasts a single electric motor with 180 kW of power and a battery capacity of 65.28 kWh. The vehicle uses an automatic transmission (AT) for smooth driving.

The bZ3 supports fast charging and can be charged from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 27 minutes. This quick charging capability makes it an attractive option for those seeking a convenient electric driving experience.

A month ago, Toyota's other joint venture in China, GAC Toyota, announced a price cut of RMB 30,000 for the bZ4our X electric SUV. This price reduction trend seems to have extended to the bZ3, with images circulating on Chinese social media showing some FAW Toyota dealership stores lowering the price of the bZ3 by RMB 60,000.

The bZ3 measures 4,725 mm in length, 1,835 mm in width, and 1,475 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,880 mm and a wind resistance coefficient of 0.218 cd, making it an aerodynamically efficient vehicle.

FAW Toyota offers three versions of the bZ3 with starting prices of RMB 169,800, 189,800, and 199,800 respectively. The bZ3 is Toyota's first all-electric sedan, officially unveiled on October 25, 2021, as the second model in the bZ series. It was officially unveiled in China last October, based on the e-TNGA all-electric vehicle platform.

While the BYD Han EV and Destroyer 05 PHEV lack detailed pricing and technical specifications in the search results, the Toyota bZ3 offers clear and accessible information, making it an attractive choice for those seeking a well-rounded electric vehicle option in China's growing market. The bZ3 is now available for pre-order in China.
