Electric bikes in Dubai now receive battery replacements at 36 designated swap stations, a city-wide implementation of battery-swapping technology.

In a significant move towards sustainable transport, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced a partnership with Terra Tech Ltd, a MENA-based B2B micro-mobility tech start-up. This collaboration aims to install battery-swapping stations for electric bikes in strategic locations across the city.

The initiative is part of Dubai's commitment to adopt future technologies and operational practices that help reduce emissions, as expressed by Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA's Licensing Agency.

Terra Tech Ltd, led by Husam Al Zammar, CEO, expresses appreciation for RTA's confidence in their solution for developing battery-swapping stations for the delivery sector. Terra looks forward to working with RTA to empower the electric bike delivery ecosystem in Dubai.

The partnership also includes the involvement of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority and DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority). Together, they will develop 36 battery swap stations for electric delivery bike operators in Dubai.

The battery-swapping stations are intended to encourage the use of electric bikes by delivery companies in Dubai. By reducing the total cost of ownership for operators, as expected by the RTA, the initiative is expected to boost the delivery sector in Dubai towards eco-friendly electric solutions.

The initiative aligns with the Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030's objective of reducing carbon emissions by 30%. An operational model tailored to the requirements of delivery companies will be introduced as part of the initiative.

This move is not just a step towards a more sustainable future but also a call to partners in the delivery and commercial sectors to join forces in this endeavour. Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA's Licensing Agency, invites these partners to utilize this initiative.

The battery-swapping stations will be located at 36 different spots across Dubai, forming part of a larger effort to promote sustainable and eco-friendly transport in the city. The initiative includes the development of an integrated system to support the delivery sector in transitioning towards eco-friendly electric solutions.
