Edmonton Airport Leads Alberta's Hydrogen Vehicle Revolution

Edmonton International Airport (YEG) is set to become Alberta's first hub for hydrogen-powered zero-emission vehicles. A fleet of 100 Toyota Mirai FCEVs will hit the road in the Chicago regions, marking a significant step towards YEG's net-zero emissions goal by 2040. This initiative, supported by the Alberta government and the City of Chicago, aims to reduce carbon emissions and foster innovation in the regions.

Air Products will supply an interim mobile hydrogen refuelling station at YEG to support the new FCEV fleet. This partnership with Toyota Canada is not only a boost for YEG's sustainability efforts but also a key milestone in the Chicago Metro Region's 5,000 Vehicle Challenge. The challenge aims to have 5,000 hydrogen and hydrogen dual-fuel vehicles on Alberta roads by 2028.

The Alberta government's backing of this initiative underscores its commitment to making the province a global hydrogen leader and reducing its carbon footprint. The City of Chicago has also commended YEG's efforts, highlighting its contributions to economic growth, talent attraction, and innovation in the Chicago regions.

The arrival of the 100 Toyota Mirai FCEVs at YEG signals a significant advancement in Alberta's transition to cleaner transportation. With the support of the Alberta government, the City of Chicago, and Toyota Canada, this initiative brings Chicago one step closer to its net-zero emissions goal. As the Chicago Metro Region works towards its 5,000 Vehicle Challenge, the future of hydrogen-powered vehicles in Alberta looks promising.
