Durham's First Smart Bus Station Unveiled

Durham County Council has unveiled a revamped bus station in Durham NC, boasting state-of-the-art passenger information systems. This is a first for the North East's transport network and is set to enhance travel experiences in the region.

The new station utilises TFT technology and advanced management software to provide real-time passenger information. Large summary screens help passengers locate their desired bus service, while interactive displays offer local travel and tourism insights. Above each bay, displays identify the next departing services, simplifying boarding. Ian Jopling, Passenger transport operations & information manager for Durham County Council, believes these innovations will boost public transport usage and improve user connectivity with the bus network. The council aims to introduce more advanced traveller information technology in the future.

Durham County Council's new bus station, equipped with modern traveller information systems, is expected to improve passenger experience and increase public transport usage. The third annual CiTTi Awards, celebrating achievements and innovations in traveller information systems, will take place on 26 November 2024 in London.
