Texas Dog Rescued After 16-Hour Ordeal with GPS Collar
In a heartwarming tale of survival, a two-year-old Central Asian Shepherd named Ziva was successfully rescued after being trapped for 16 hours during the recent floods in Texas.
Ziva, owned by Doguet, disappeared from her Texas ranch on July 4, after being spooked by a big storm or a predator. The flood waters rose swiftly, trapping Ziva near the Medina River, which borders the back section of the ranch.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Doguet had previously fitted both of her dogs with Tractive GPS collars to help track them. This decision proved to be crucial in Ziva's rescue. Shannon and Taelyn, who were searching for Ziva, were able to locate her thanks to the Tractive app's sound feature. However, they could not initially see Ziva due to her being trapped in a flooded gully. The three other sides of the gully were too steep and slick for Ziva to climb out on her own.
After locating Ziva, Shannon and Taelyn tried to pull her to safety, but Ziva was too tired from her ordeal. Despite the challenges, they were able to rescue Ziva and bring her back home.
Upon returning home, Ziva "guzzled water" and slept for the next 12 hours, showing no signs of lasting damage from her ordeal.
The floods in Texas have affected hundreds of animals this month, with some being rescued but others still missing. The Best Friends Animal Society is currently raising money for its emergency response fund to help animals affected by the floods.
