Cyber Security Threats Surge: CSIRO's Innovate to Grow Program Aids SMEs

Cyber security threats are escalating, with a 13% rise in reported cases in Australia's 2020-21 financial year. To bolster defence, CSIRO's Innovate to Grow: Cyber Security program is now accepting applications until 7 November 2022.

The 10-week online program, starting 1 December 2022, offers free R&D support to 20-25 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). SMEs, which account for 99.8% of Australian businesses, can benefit from CSIRO's cyber security expertise and industry knowledge. Participants will also receive an R&D mentor and potential dollar-matched funding upon completion. The program aims to increase the currently low collaboration rate between businesses and universities or research institutions, which stands at less than 15%.

The Innovate to Grow: Cyber Security program targets SMEs to strengthen their cyber defence capabilities, particularly addressing the high cyber risk these businesses face due to fewer resources compared to larger enterprises. Applications close on 7 November 2022. CSIRO is committed to helping Australian businesses combat cyber-attacks through this initiative.
