Cross-residency laureates Lea Dedola and Katia Morel recognized by Stereolux
Artistic Residency Program at Stereolux and Your Platform Focuses on Hybridization
Stereolux, a Nantes-based structure renowned for its digital art festivals, partnered with the platform Your Platform for an innovative artistic residency program. The cross-residency initiative, centered around "Virtual Environment," offers artists a unique opportunity to delve into the conception of digital art projects while receiving guidance from virtual reality experts over three residence periods.
This artistic residency program aims to blur the lines between traditional artistic disciplines and new technologies. Stereolux sought to create a groundbreaking residency program in collaboration with the platform Your Platform, linking the two entities for several years. The partnership is strengthened by Cedric Huchet, a programmer of Stereolux, serving on the jury for this residency.
The RESCTO VRso digital art festival served as the stage for announcing the winners of this cross residency. For their first collaboration, Stereolux and Your Platform selected artists Lea Dedola and Katia Morel, who will work on a project called "Quand le cœur se serre." This project demonstrates the emotional potential of virtual reality, a crucial aspect of this intellectual endeavor.
Lea Dedola is a game designer, researcher, and producer who is currently preparing a thesis on "Artistic Creation in Virtual Reality" at the University Lyon II. Meanwhile, Katia Morel is an artist specializing in 3D, receiving her training at the Beaux-Arts de Lyon. Their work will be presented during the physical edition of the Recto VRso festival, scheduled for July 7-11, 2021.
The artists will undergo three different residence periods, starting with a visit to Stereolux from May 31st to June 4th. Following this, they will attend the Your Platform Center from June 14th to June 18th, where they will collaborate with immersive technologies experts and have access to advanced equipment. Finally, they will return to Stereolux from June 21st to June 25th for further work and project refinement.
This cross-residency initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and the blending of artistic fields and technologies, such as the Fusion AIR artistic residency project in 2021, which showcased the work of Guy Fleisher – a testament to the boundary-pushing potential of this extensive program.
- During their stay at Stereolux, artists Lea Dedola and Katia Morel will explore the integration of technology and traditional art in their sustainable-living themed project, "Quand le cœur se serre."
- Lea Dedola, specializing in home-and-garden-inspired digital art, will work on her thesis, focusing on data-and-cloud-computing and artificial-intelligence applications in virtual reality at the University Lyon II.
- By participating in this artistic residency program, Artistic Residency Program at Stereolux and Your Platform Focuses on Hybridization, the artists aim to forge a lifestyle that seamlessly blends art, technology, and sustainable practices.
