I've been on these bad boys for almost a decade, and trust me, I've put them through their paces. I started riding these when the arms still had a few dents - over a decade ago!
As a street rider, dependable BMX cranks are non-negotiable. Since I'm also an Animal fan, opting for Akimbos seems like the logical choice.
Let me tell you; these cranks can take a beating. Abuse? Beatings? Bring it on. They're built for riders who push the limits.
But remember, I did break one arm - long story short, it was due to an old set of Animal Akimbos I'd been riding for more than a decade, stored in a humid basement for a year (rust attack), and neglected for almost four years. Not recommending that practice!
Anyway, after getting back to riding, three months later, I found myself hitting a 2 feet high 180 drop and breaking a crank arm.
Update (4.9.2022): One minor inconvenience is that the spindle bolts keep coming loose. I have to tighten them almost every second or third session, which can be a bit of a pain.
Update (10.19.2023): I've been riding with Akimbos for about a year and a half now, and they're still holding up. However, the spindle bolt issue (on both sides) is becoming more frequent.
When the crank broke, I went ahead and ordered a new pair of 170mm Akimbos right away. I'd been riding 175mm cranks previously.

I appreciate the simplified design of the new Akimbos versus the previous version. When I grabbed the cranks from the box, I could feel the durability oozing out. Solid but not bulky. And ever so slightly heavier - just the way it should be for a set of cranks that can handle anything.
The installation was smooth sailing. While an installation tool was required, I was able to put them together by hand (without pliers).
The LOOK and FEEL of these cranks are spot-on for me, and I have to confess, I really dig the logo detail, which gives them a bit of luxury.

Versatility in Sizes
I've tried out the 170mm version of Animal Akimbo cranks, but decided to switch to the 160mm length because of the fourth BMX peg. My back leg kept hitting the peg, even after extending the chain (I run Shadow Interlock V2) for half a link. The 160mm Akimbos fixed that issue for me.
I hear some say that moving from 170mm to 160mm cranks is too much of a jump. But honestly, I barely noticed a difference. I might even make a seamless transition from 175mm to 160mm comfortably.

Yeah, I'd definitely recommend Akimbo cranks. They've got that clean, powerful feel to them and can last a long time if you take care of them.
