Creator of "Severance" Reveals Key Focus Points for Season 3

Oh, man! The damn season finale of Severance drops, and now we're left scratching our heads like a mother's day fundraiser raffle winner who's just solved a rubik's cube. But we got a chance to chat with the mad genius behind it all, Dan Erickson, and he dropped a bunch of hints for what's coming next.

First things first, Mark busting out of that Cold Harbor lab to find Gemma was the big goal of the season, but how did they go about telling the story while also setting up the end of this madness with Mark choosing Helly?

According to Erickson, it was all baked in together. He thinks it was an interesting challenge to start Mark off on the quest to rescue Gemma. As the season progressed, Erickson wanted to show Mark valuing his own life and his own love, feeling like a human and being deserving of the things he wanted. That's why, in the finale, we see him choosing Helly over Gemma.

Speaking of that finale, we finally get some answers. What, you thought they'd just leave us hanging like a loose knot in grandma's sweater? We find out about the goats, Cold Harbor, the numbers, and all that jazz. Erickson says they always constructed the show in a way where we'd be scratching our noggins, trying to figure out the "Why?" But in the end, we're still left wondering, "What the hell is going on with this show?"

Now, some folks might accuse Erickson of just being weird for the sake of being weird. But not us. Not with episodes like "Woe's Hollow" and "Salt's Neck" throwing up the wildest, strangest, most mind-bending stuff our eyeballs have ever witnessed. And, hey, if they're pointing at stuff and saying "Look at this," but then never telling us what's going on, who are we to judge?

Still, there's a line between just being weird and not having a point. And some folks might wonder if all those side-quest, weirdo adventures had a purpose, or if it was just Dan Erickson messing around for giggles. But Erickson assures us that it's all part of building out the world of Severance, making us wonder about the systems, groups, and cultures at play, and just how they all fit together.

As we wait for the MDR crew to make their triumphant return to Apple TV, we can't help but wonder about what's still to come. Is there more to the story of why Mark and Gemma were sent to Cold Harbor? Is there more to the mysterious world outside of Kier? Are we gonna see more of that damn cough that's plaguing Mark? And most importantly, we gotta know - what's the biggest question fans should be thinking about going into more Severance?

Erickson tells us that the question on Mark and Helly's mind is going to be, "Now what?" They have chosen to continue living, but they don't know what that means exactly. How long they have? How long can they stick it out in this madhouse? And most importantly, what would they do to defend their own existence?

So, there you have it, folks. More Severance is coming, and we can't wait to find out what the hell is going on. Thanks for the show, Dan, and we can't wait to catch up with you for season three.
