CPS Energy Unveils 120 MW/480 MWh Battery Project for San Antonio's Peak Demand
CPS Energy, San Antonio's leading utility provider, has announced a significant step towards meeting the city's growing energy demands. The Alamo City Battery Energy Storage System (Alamo City BESS) project, a 120 MW / 480 MWh battery storage facility, is set to power the ERCOT grid during peak demand periods and support the city's sustainability goals. The project is a collaboration between CPS Energy, OCI Energy, and LG Energy Solution Vertech, with an expected commercial operation date of 2027.
OCI Energy will oversee the development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance, and ownership of the project, located in Bexar County, Texas. LG Energy Solution Vertech will provide the battery energy storage system and energy management technology. Upon signing a memorandum of understanding, the three companies committed to advancing the project, which is expected to reach commercial operation in 2027.
Rudy D. Garza, President & CEO of CPS Energy, highlighted the project's role in meeting the growing energy demands of the San Antonio community. Sabah Bayatli, President of OCI Energy, stated that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to energy innovation and affordability. Jaehong Park, President and CEO of LG Energy Solution Vertech, expressed pride in supporting San Antonio's energy transition through the project. CPS Energy will commit to purchasing energy storage capacity from OCI Energy, furthering its role as a leader in sustainable energy integration in Texas.
The Alamo City BESS project, upon completion, will play a crucial role in supporting San Antonio's energy sustainability goals and meeting the growing energy demands of the community. The collaboration between CPS Energy, OCI Energy, and LG Energy Solution Vertech demonstrates a commitment to innovative and affordable energy solutions.
