Court data network disruptions caused by a single operator's malfunction

Court officials faced recurring network issues within their judicial information system today, disrupting productivity, an issue the Ministry of Justice attributes to the system operator, who relies on a backup system as well.

Court data network disruptions caused by a single operator's malfunction

Rewritten Article:

In a recent development, members of the Judicial Employees' Union (SFJ) have aired complaints about problems with the courts' information system, such as slowness and system lockups. The Institute for Financial Management and Justice Equipment (IGFEJ), confirmed these issues to Lusa via the Ministry of Justice (MJ), attributing them to a "failure" in MEO, the operator responsible for the data network of the Portuguese courts, including the backup system.

The issue was detected last Friday, according to IGFEJ, and is resulting in "slow data traffic," but without any data loss.

The MJ clarified that IGFEJ has a plan underway within the Recovery and Resilience Program (PRR), which is currently in the contracting phase. This plan is intended to eliminate the sole dependence on one telecommunications operator for both normal and backup circuits.

As per IGFEJ data, the new contract will increase the network capacity threefold for the 884 justice sites and double it for the two data centers. This endeavor will not only provide the network with redundancy and improved speed, but also augment the security of the network, refresh network equipment, and install over 6,000 Wi-Fi access points. This arrangement will put an end to the constraints faced since Friday, as the network seems heavily reliant on a fiber optic circuit from a single operator.

While current news and official documents don't offer specific insights into the timeline or status of the new telecommunications contract aiming to bolster the Portuguese courts' information system network, it is advisable to consult official sources such as the Portuguese Ministry of Justice, court service bulletins, or recent public procurement announcements for updates on this matter.

What is the status of the new telecommunications contract aimed at boosting the Portuguese courts' data-and-cloud-computing system, particularly in the finance and industry sectors, given the recent network issues?Technology advances in the new contract will provide network redundancy, enhanced speed, increased security, refreshed network equipment, and over 6,000 Wi-Fi access points, ultimately resolving the current constraints and lockups facing the courts' information system.

Court employees encountered persistent network issues today in the IT system, impacting their duties. These issues were allegedly caused by the system operator, whose outdated infrastructure also contributes to the problem.
