**Booming EV Market in Austria: Cupra Terramar Leads the Way**

In the first half of 2025, Austria has witnessed a surge in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, setting it apart from many European Union (EU) markets. The Cupra Terramar, a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), has taken the lead in Austria's PHEV market, with a record-breaking 262 registrations in February alone, making it the best-selling PHEV in the country during that month.

This impressive performance has given the Cupra Terramar a comfortable lead at the top of the Austrian PHEV market for the first two months of 2025. Across these months, total plug-in volumes increased by 26.9%, recording 11,353 sales in Austria.

The growth in EV deliveries in Austria has been significant, with a 42.2% rise compared to the previous year, a figure that outpaces the overall EU trend observed in the early part of 2025. As of now, new battery-electric car sales in the EU have reached 701,089 units in the first five months of 2025, capturing a 15.4% market share. However, the EU is expected to see a more modest growth in EV sales, with a projected increase of 22.8% year-on-year in 2025.

Austria's EV growth can be attributed to a combination of factors, including a relatively good level of charging infrastructure compared to EU markets with similar EV and BEV volumes. As of the first quarter of 2025, Austria boasts a total of 33,525 recharging points for electric vehicles, a 465.1% increase from the first quarter of 2020. AC chargers represent 77.9% of recharging points in Austria, while DC chargers take a 22.1% share.

The government's supportive policies, such as tax incentives or purchase premiums, have also played a crucial role in the growth of EV sales. However, discussions around tariffs on Chinese EVs could potentially impact the market, as they might raise costs for consumers and impact the competitiveness of local manufacturers.

Looking ahead, Robert Madas, Autovista Group's regional head of valuations, anticipates EVs to continue their growth in Austria over the next one to two years. Other notable players in Austria's EV market include the Ford Kuga, which holds third place in the Austrian PHEV market for the first two months of 2025, with 207 units.

BEVs, such as the Renault 5 and Alpine A290, have also been popular in Austria, with the Renault 5 and Alpine A290 leading Austria's best-selling BEVs top 10 in February 2025, taking a 5.7% market share. In the same month, BEV sales in Austria improved by 29.6%, reaching 8,034 units.

Despite the exhaustion of subsidies for the purchase of new BEVs in February 2025, BEVs remain attractive as company cars in Austria due to their exemption from benefit-in-kind tax and related employer contributions.

Overall, Austria's EV growth is robust, but changes in EU policies and incentives could influence future trends across the region. It is essential for Austria to maintain supportive policies to sustain the growth trend and continue its lead in the EU's EV market.

In the evolving Austrian market, the popularity of luxury lifestyle vehicles such as the Cupra Terramar, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), has soared, with technology playing a crucial role in propelling its success. With the growth in EV deliveries, there's an increasing focus on expanding the charging infrastructure, ensuring continued development and competitiveness in this technology-driven sector.
