Market Update: Global Stock Markets and Currencies Move in Mixed Directions
In today's market update, a mix of positive and negative movements can be observed across various global stock markets.
The Nasdaq 100, which is heavily weighted towards technology stocks, saw a one percent rise, closing at 24,454.89 points on Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also gained ground, with a 0.3 percent increase to 46,142.42 points.
In Europe, the DAX ended the day with a 1.4% gain at 23,674.53 points. There could be a 1.47 point increase for the DAX at the start of Friday, according to broker IG's estimates. Goldman Sachs is particularly optimistic about Rheinmetall, initiating coverage with a "Buy" rating and a price target of 2,200 euros. The broker also has a positive view on Airbus, initiating coverage with a "Buy" rating and a price target of 230 euros.
However, not all European stock markets saw gains. The CSI 300, which tracks the most important Chinese mainland stocks, was up 0.1 percent in the morning, while the Japanese Nikkei 225 was down 0.4 percent in the morning. The Hang Seng in Hong Kong followed suit, down 0.2 percent in the morning.
Gold and silver prices saw some fluctuations. Gold is currently trading at $3,656 per ounce, while silver is at $42.22 per ounce.
In the currency market, the CSI 300 was up in the morning, indicating a positive view of the Chinese yuan.
Elsewhere, Bitcoin is trading at $116,966, and Nvidia recently announced it's buying back $5 billion worth of its shares.
Scout24 could be in focus following the takeover announcement of Spanish online real estate platforms Fotocasa and Habitaclia. DHL Group's stock may benefit from a strong quarterly report by its U.S. competitor FedEx.
September 19 is a major expiration day at the exchange for stock options, index options, and index futures.
