Constantia Flexibles & Watttron Revolutionize Lid Sealing for PP & Aluminium Lids
Constantia Flexibles and Watttron have joined forces to revolutionize lid sealing for PP and aluminium lids on PP cups. The new system, based on Watttron's innovative ring-heating technology, promises improved efficiency and simplified production processes.
The traditional method of heating the entire sealing head often led to issues like curling due to excessive heat exposure. Watttron's technology, however, applies heat only to the outer sealing ring, reducing thermal stress and enhancing energy efficiency. This targeted approach also enables consistent sealing performance and allows for safe power-down during production stops, resulting in potential energy savings of up to 50%.
The new system, which integrates with 100% inspection capabilities, ensures real-time detection and removal of defective cups. It is based on Constantia Flexibles' PPCover, a mono-material PP lidding solution, and heats and cools rapidly at a rate of 10 to 20 °C per second, maintaining the set temperature with high accuracy (±1 °C). This innovation aims to eliminate the need for separate machines or setups for different lid materials, simplifying production processes and reducing equipment complexity.
The collaboration between Constantia Flexibles and Watttron has led to a new lid sealing system that improves energy efficiency, ensures consistent sealing performance, and simplifies production processes. By applying heat only to the outer sealing ring and integrating real-time inspection, this innovative system offers a significant advancement in the packaging industry.
