Confirmed: Lucid's Midsize Electric SUV to Debut in 2026 at a Price Point of $50,000
Lucid Motors, the Saudi-backed automaker, is set to launch a new midsize electric SUV in late 2026, marking a significant expansion into a more affordable segment of the EV market.
The new vehicle, which is expected to start around US$50,000, will offer a mix of performance and practicality, positioning it as a more affordable option compared to Lucid's current luxury models like the Air and Gravity.
The midsize SUV, part of Lucid’s new midsize EV platform, will share a next-generation Atlas Powertrain designed to match or exceed current efficiency levels but at significantly lower costs. This platform will support multiple vehicle types, including the midsize SUV and a sedan.
Lucid's interim CEO, Marc Winterhoff, mentioned that the company is taking steps to localize its supply chain due to renewed U.S. tariffs, with no current plans to raise prices as a result.
Derek Jenkins, Lucid's senior vice president of design and brand, stated that they are on track to launch the midsize electric SUV, aiming to compete in the more affordable midsize electric SUV segment, which includes offerings from other major EV manufacturers targeting broader markets at around the $50,000 price point. This marks a shift from Lucid’s previous focus on luxury performance EVs, potentially competing with models from Tesla (Model Y), Ford (Mustang Mach-E), Volkswagen (ID.4), and others in that segment.
To prepare for production, Lucid is leveraging recently acquired Nikola facilities to enhance manufacturing capabilities, though these additions will not impact the planned late 2026 production start. The company plans to bring this platform to market with greater agility, shorter lead times, and reduced unit costs to strengthen manufacturing leverage and broaden its market appeal.
Lucid ended Q2 2025 with $4.86 billion in liquidity, expected to support funding through the start of midsize production. The battery cell and graphite suppliers of Lucid have signed agreements to bring production to the United States, though the location for the production of the new battery cells and graphite was not specified in the statement.
In addition to the midsize electric SUV, Lucid currently produces the luxury Air sedan and the Gravity SUV. The company is also expected to launch a more affordable Touring version of the Gravity SUV later this year, starting at $79,900 USD.
The new crossover from Lucid will compete with models like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Rivian's forthcoming R2-vehicles. Lucid's strategy for this midsize SUV reflects a move to expand beyond the luxury market into a higher-volume, more cost-competitive segment while maintaining efficiency and performance standards.
