Getting Hype over HP's New Edgy Laptops:

The tech world is abuzz with excitement as HP unveils a bunch of badass laptops coming our way this year. Here's the lowdown on the one that's caught my eye – the OmniBook 7 Aero 13.

HP dropped some knowledge at their annual conference, HP Amplify, in Nashville, showcasing the OmniBook 7 Aero 13, a sleek, ultraportable laptop that tips the scales at just under 2.2 pounds. Powered by AMD's latest Ryzen AI 7 350 CPU, this bad boy could be an excellent choice for jet-setting nomads and casual gamers alike.

AMD's been killing it with their iGPUs, like the Radeon 8060S, but does the OmniBook's Radeon 860M iGPU stand up to the task? Let's dive in and find out!

OmniBook 7 Aero 13 – Stepping into the Arena

I've got a soft spot for the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED (Q425M). It's light, portable, offers a killer display, and boasts outstanding battery life – so much so, I recommended it to a buddy, and they're loving it! The question is, can the OmniBook 7 Aero 13 outdo the Zenbook and claim the throne?

The Aero 13 boasts an AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 processor, AMD Radeon 860M iGPU, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a 13.3-inch, 2560 x 1600 IPS display. It's lighter, packing in at 2.2 pounds compared to the Zenbook's 3 pounds, but the Zenbook edges out in terms of thickness (0.59 inches versus OmniBook's 0.69 inches).

I appreciate the OmniBook's ceramic white colorway, which definitely beats the Zenbook 14's grey chassis. Battery life? HP promises up to 12 hours and 15 minutes of use with mixed usage, while we tested the Zenbook 14 and got an impressive 15 hours and 52 minutes.

As for the display, the Aero 13 can rock a 13.3-inch, 2560 x 1600 IPS display at 100% sRGB and 400 nits of brightness. The Zenbook 14 is limited to 1080p, but it does offer an OLED panel for more vibrant colors and deeper blacks. However, it struggles with brightness, maxing out at 339 nits.

Step Up Your Game

I love dabbling in gaming on non-gaming devices – they're generally more portable and pretty dope-looking. The Radeon 860M has been benchmarked to run Baldur's Gate 3 at 23.6 fps on low settings, which is a bit disappointing considering the game's incredible optimization. However, it did manage to score 33.6 fps on GTA V at 1080p, high settings.

It's still an uncertain race between the OmniBook 7 Aero 13 and the Zenbook 14. The deciding factor? Price. We're waiting on the figure as of now, but if the Aero can reach $1,000 as a starting price, it stands a solid chance in the competitive ultraportable market.

The OmniBook Bonanza

HP's on a roll, folks – they're bringing 18 different OmniBooks to the table! Seven OmniBook 7 laptops, five OmniBook 5 laptops, two OmniBook 3 laptops, and four OmniBook X laptops. To save our sanity, let's focus on the series and their features:

The OmniBook X series offers an ultra-premium line, with OLED displays and a sleek, thin design.

The OmniBook 7 series is a more affordable alternative, with premium features and a larger chassis for added security – but what exactly makes it more secure remains a mystery.

The OmniBook 5 series uses older-gen CPUs while offering quality goods like OLED panels, perfect for light tasks, personal admin, and entertainment (where's my OLED panel for the Aero, though?).

Lastly, the OmniBook 3 series offers more budget-friendly laptops with lower-end specs and a thicker chassis, suitable for work, creativity, and connectivity at an affordable price. I'm eager to see HP's definition of "affordable" considering the uncertainty surrounding laptop pricing with all the tariff insanity.
