Centre Pompidou Closes for Five-Year Renovation, Promising a Modern, Accessible Reopening in 2030
The Centre Pompidou in Paris will close for a five-year renovation starting on September 22, 2025. The closure, which will see the museum reopen in 2030 after a thorough overhaul, has sparked discussions about maintaining Paris's cultural treasures.
During the closure, the Centre Pompidou's collection will travel the world through the 'Constellation' programme. Works will be displayed in Brussels, Seoul, Paraná in Brazil, and Jersey City, ensuring the public remains connected to the art. Meanwhile, the Centre Pompidou will open new branches in Massy, Brussels, Seoul, Paraná, and Jersey City.
The €460 million renovation, funded by the French state (€280 million) and Saudi Arabia (€50 million), will include asbestos removal, structural repairs, accessibility upgrades, redesigned galleries, and energy efficiency improvements. The museum aims to reduce its energy consumption by 40% with these upgrades.
The Centre Pompidou's renovation is part of President Emmanuel Macron's pledge to renew cultural institutions in France. The museum's reopening in 2030 promises an improved, more accessible, and energy-efficient space for visitors to enjoy.
