California Enacts Major AI Regulation Law, Requiring Transparency and Risk Disclosure

California has made a significant stride in AI regulation. Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 53, a bill requiring companies developing advanced AI systems to disclose safety protocols and report risks and cyberattacks. This comes as various tech giants, including Slack and Google, have rolled out new AI tools for businesses.

SB 53, initially proposed by Senator Scott Wiener as SB 1047, mandates transparency and accountability in AI development. Newsom vetoed an earlier version last year but signed the revised bill recently.

Slack, the popular communication platform, has introduced 'Channel Expert', an AI teammate designed to enhance productivity for small businesses. Meanwhile, Google has unveiled a centralized hub offering its suite of tools for setup, advertising, analytics, and support, making it easier for small businesses to access these resources.

In the AI tools sphere, Squarespace has rolled out new AI tools for SEO and design, including Beacon AI, SEO Scanner, AI Site Scanner, and Finish Layer. OpenAI has also introduced a major e-commerce feature, allowing users to make purchases directly through ChatGPT via Instant Checkout.

The signing of SB 53 marks a significant step in AI regulation, promoting transparency and safety. Meanwhile, tech companies continue to innovate, offering new AI tools to boost productivity and streamline processes for businesses.
