BYD's New EVs Charge in 5 Minutes, Revolutionizing EV Charging
BYD, a Chinese automaker, is set to revolutionize electric vehicle (EV) charging with its new HAN L and TANG L models, launching in April. These vehicles promise ultra-fast charging, adding up to 400 kilometers of range in just five minutes.
BYD's innovation lies in its Super-e Platform, which uses silicon carbide power chips with a nominal voltage of up to 1,500 volts. This enables charging times comparable to refueling a conventional vehicle, addressing users' concerns about lengthy charging periods. The HAN L, with an 83 kWh battery, and the TANG L, with a 101 kWh battery, both offer promised charging rates of 8.4 C. The platform boasts a 1,000-volt architecture and record charging power of up to 1,360 kilowatts.
To support this rapid charging technology, BYD plans to build 500,000 fast-charging stations in China this year. Additionally, the company aims to establish more than 4,000 flash charging stations nationwide in the coming years, using its Flash Charging Battery with a charging rate of 10 Coulomb and a maximum current strength of 1,000 amperes.
The new BYD HAN L and TANG L models, priced approximately $30,500 to $39,000 and 217,140 yuan ($31,500 to $42,000) respectively, will be available in China in April. With their ultra-fast charging capabilities and extensive charging infrastructure plans, BYD is poised to significantly enhance the EV charging experience.
