BYD Debuts Compact SUV, Yuan Up, in Hong Kong Market
BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has expanded its presence in Hong Kong with the launch of the Atto 2, a compact electric SUV jointly unveiled with local dealer partner Harmony Auto.
The Atto 2, previously known as the Yuan Up, has already made its mark in international markets since its debut in March 2024. It has been introduced in Europe, Brazil, Peru, and Malaysia, and has garnered over 200 orders before its launch in Hong Kong.
Key Features and Specifications
The Atto 2 offers two main trims, Boost and Comfort, with differences in battery capacity and driving range. The Boost model is equipped with a 51.1 kWh BYD Blade Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering up to 214 miles (345 km) WLTP combined range, and up to 302 miles (486 km) in city driving. The Comfort model is equipped with a larger 64.8 kWh battery, offering up to 261 miles (420 km) WLTP combined range.
Other key features include dimensions of 4,310 mm length, 1,830 mm width, 1,675 mm height, and a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. The vehicle features front-wheel drive, with motor power of 130 kW for the Boost and 150 kW for the Comfort, and torque of 290 Nm for the Boost and 310 Nm for the Comfort. The Atto 2 can accelerate from 0-62 mph in around 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of approximately 99 mph (160 km/h).
Advanced Technology and Build
The Atto 2 is equipped with BYD's Blade Battery using Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology, which integrates the battery into the vehicle structure for improved rigidity and cabin space. It also includes a heat pump for improved efficiency in colder climates and a V2L (vehicle-to-load) function to power external devices.
The interior boasts 17-inch alloy wheels, a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic glass roof, heated seats and steering wheel. The Atto 2 offers practical cargo space with a trunk volume of 400 liters (rear seats up), expandable to 1,340 liters with seats down.
Affordable and Efficient
BYD's General Manager of Asia Pacific Sales Division, Liu Xue Liang, describes the Atto 2 as an affordable electric vehicle for young people and small families. The starting price for the Atto 2 in Hong Kong is 155,000 Hong Kong dollars (19,750 US dollars), with a post-tax price of 169,800 Hong Kong dollars.
Global Expansion
BYD has made inroads into global markets, with the launch of the D9 MPV in Hong Kong, and the Atto 2 is a testament to its commitment to sustainable transportation. The company sold over 17,000 vehicles in Hong Kong as of 2022, and in July 2021, it sold 344,296 new energy vehicles (NEVs) globally, marking a significant increase in sales.
