British Motorcycle Manufacturer Introduces BSA Bantam 350 in the UK, Model Modelled After Jawa 42 FJ
New Bantam 350: A Retro-Modern Roadster with Jawa DNA
The Bantam 350, the latest offering from the British motorcycle manufacturer, BSA, shares many similarities with the Jawa 42 Bobber. Both motorcycles are based on the same 334cc platform developed for Yezdi-Jawa models, and they use the same single-cylinder engine, producing approximately 29 horsepower and 29.6 Nm of torque.
Design-wise, the Bantam 350 and the Jawa 42 Bobber have a retro-modern aesthetic with similar upright proportions, a double-cradle chassis, telescopic front forks, and dual rear shocks with preload adjustment. The Bantam 350 stands out with a single exhaust pipe, while the Jawa 42 Bobber features a twin exhaust setup. The Bantam has a slightly taller seat height (800mm) compared to the Jawa’s 790mm, and a marginally larger fuel tank capacity (13 liters vs. 12 liters).
Performance and ride dynamics remain consistent between the two, with near-identical kerb weights (Bantam 185 kg versus Jawa 184 kg) and similar suspension travel. Both bikes come equipped with disc brakes at both ends and dual-channel ABS, as well as a similar 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel setup.
The Bantam 350 is equipped with a 6-speed gearbox and a single-pod instrument cluster that offers digital and analog readouts. The wire-spoke wheels and round headlamp of the Bantam 350 echo its vintage lineage, while the engine has been tuned to complement its laid-back, classic roadster personality. The Bantam 350 boasts a retro aesthetic with upright proportions, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and generous use of chrome.
The Bantam 350 is priced from £3,499 RRP, making it more affordable than the Gold Star. Although the Bantam 350 is not confirmed for an India launch yet, it has potential to be launched on Indian roads in the future due to BSA's links with Classic Legends. The Bantam 350's engine is Euro 5 compliant, making it ready for a wider international rollout.
While the Bantam 350 is not mentioned to share any platform with the BSA Gold Star, it will sit below the Gold Star in the brand's lineup. It's also worth noting that the Bantam is not part of the same group as Jawa and Yezdi, but it is linked with Classic Legends.
