Bolt Introduces Family Profiles for Simplified Ride Management in South Africa
Bolt, a leading ride-hailing platform in South Africa, has recently introduced a new feature called Family Profiles. This innovative solution allows a single account holder to manage and pay for rides on behalf of up to nine other individuals under one Bolt account.
The primary objective of Family Profiles is to simplify ride coordination and payment for families, caregivers, and support networks. This feature is particularly beneficial for parents, caregivers, or those arranging rides for older adults who may not be tech-savvy or frequently use smartphones or ride-hailing apps.
Each added rider within the Family Profiles can book their own trips, while the main account holder retains control through tools such as setting monthly spending limits, receiving real-time trip notifications, viewing ride history, tracking rides live, and contacting drivers if necessary.
In addition to simplifying the rider journey, Family Profiles aim to help top-rated drivers earn more. The feature is part of Bolt's nationwide redesign of its ride categories, which includes new options like Economy, Bolt, Comfort, Business, XL, and Women for Women. This redesign aims to make trip options clearer and faster to choose.
Family Profiles also integrate Bolt’s safety features across all rides booked within the profile. These include trip verification codes, live location sharing, emergency assistance, and real-time monitoring by Bolt’s Safety Team. It's worth noting that all members must be 18 or older and have their own Bolt accounts to prevent rides being booked for unaccompanied minors.
Lerato Motsoeneng, Senior GM at Bolt South Africa, stated that the category restructure is about clarity, value, and fairness. By consolidating multiple riders under one account, Bolt eliminates technological and payment barriers, enhancing safety, transparency, and convenience.
