BenQ Unveils Affordable Tablet: nReader R100
BenQ, a company traditionally known for computer monitors and related components, has ventured into the tablet market with the unveiling of its new device, the nReader R100.
The nReader R100 is an economically priced tablet, with BenQ rumored to price the WiFi-only version at one eighth of the iPad's price. This makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.
The tablet is built around a 667MHz Samsung ARM-based processor and runs the latest version of Android, Android 2.2 Froyo. Initially, it will run Android 2.0, with an option to upgrade to Android 2.2 Froyo at a later date.
The nReader R100 boasts a 10.1 inch resistive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. While this may result in a somewhat lower quality display compared to capacitive touchscreens, the lower price point could potentially offset this limitation.
The tablet measures 173 x 267 x 14.4 mm and weighs 700 grams. It comes with 4GB of flash storage and an SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot for expanding storage options.
The nReader R100 is packed with features, including a HDMI port that supports video output of up to 720p, standard USB and mini-USB ports, Wi-Fi, and an integrated 3G modem.
In terms of battery life, the tablet is rated for a impressive 12 hours. BenQ plans to introduce the nReader R100 in Japan, China, and Taiwan in the first quarter of 2011, followed by Europe and the USA.
With its affordable price and impressive features, the nReader R100 is set to make a mark in the competitive tablet market.
