Battery testing facility launched by DEKRA in Klettwitz commences operations
DEKRA Opens New Battery Testing Center at Lausitzring in Brandenburg
In a significant move for the automotive industry, DEKRA, a leading global provider of testing and certification services, has officially opened a new battery testing center at Lausitzring in Brandenburg. The facility, which was completed in approximately 15 months, was inaugurated on September 16, 2025.
The grand opening was attended by Brandenburg's Minister President Dietmar Woidke, the district administrator Siegurd Heinze, and DEKRA Germany CEO Guido Kutschera. The new center, located at Lausitzring, is part of DEKRA's strategy to expand its service portfolio for the automotive and supplier industry.
Since taking over the Lausitzring eight years ago, the number of employees at the site has grown from 70 to 290. With the addition of the new battery testing center, up to 40 additional jobs are planned. The expansion in Klettwitz is expected to bolster DEKRA's capabilities in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.
The new testing center complements the existing testing and service offerings at the Klettwitz site. It offers a comprehensive range of services, from development-accompanying tests to homologation, certification, and market surveillance. The center will also test batteries for other applications, not just EVs.
The center performs abuse tests that push batteries beyond their regular limits to ensure their durability and safety. It also conducts performance and environmental tests for batteries to assess their efficiency and impact on the environment.
The construction of the new center required a two-digit million investment, reflecting DEKRA's commitment to advancing battery technology and supporting the transition to sustainable mobility. The center will focus on batteries for electric vehicles, playing a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and safety of EVs.
This new facility is a testament to DEKRA's vision of shaping the future of mobility. It underscores the company's commitment to innovation, quality, and safety in the rapidly evolving world of electric vehicles.
