Baden-Württemberg backs construction of fundamental electric lorry charging infrastructure
Baden-Württemberg Launches Tender for 80 New Truck Charging Points
The state of Baden-Württemberg, located in southwestern Germany, has announced a tender for at least 80 new truck charging points at 21 locations along its regional road network. This initiative forms part of the state's efforts to promote climate-friendly drives in road freight transport and electrify its truck fleet.
The aim is to establish new charging points that support the electrification of the truck fleet in Baden-Württemberg, which currently accounts for over a third of CO2 emissions despite making up less than two percent of vehicles on European roads. The Ministry of Transport in Baden-Württemberg has set a goal to make half of all freight transport climate-neutral by 2030.
Each lot in the tender is allocated seven geographically defined areas, called search spaces, within which one charging location is to be set up. Companies and bidding consortia can apply for a total of four million euros in funding for each of the three areas.
The charging points will be supplied with renewable energy from the grid or locally generated regenerative energy. They will be equipped with fast DC charging points (CCS standard) that can deliver up to 400 kW of power, suitable for trucks. The charging locations are intended to be part of a comprehensive basic charging network for e-trucks in Baden-Württemberg.
The focus is on promoting climate-friendly drives in road freight transport in Baden-Württemberg. The charging points must comply with recognized calibration laws for public billing, allow smart charging, and support multi-payment options (apps, RFID, credit cards etc.). They must also integrate into public billing systems, possibly including eRoaming for cross-operator compatibility, with provisions for economic viability through subsidies and utilization of certified GHG quotas.
The state of Baden-Württemberg is seeking broad support from the economy to achieve its climate protection goal. Transport Minister Winfried Hermann emphasized the importance of emission-free trucks and charging infrastructure in Baden-Württemberg.
For precise details on the BASE funding call such as application procedures, eligibility, technical specifications, and funding amounts, checking official Baden-Württemberg government or transport ministry websites and the BASE program’s official communication channels would be necessary.
- The charging points in Baden-Württemberg's new truck charging network will be a significant contribution to the state's goal of promoting environmental-science by reducing CO2 emissions, especially from the truck industry.
- As part of the state's ambitious plan to make half of all freight transport climate-neutral by 2030, upgrading the technology of these 80 charging points with fast DC charging points (CCS standard) is a critical step in the multi-billion-euro transition to clean energy.
- With the integration of Smart Grid technology and multi-payment options, these charging points in Baden-Württemberg will not only support climate-friendly drives in the transport industry but also contribute to the state's economy by attracting investment from the finance sector, particularly in the funding, operation, and maintenance of these new charging facilities.
