Spotify, the popular music streaming platform, has announced the introduction of new audiobook plan options in the U.S., providing more flexibility and shareability for its Premium users.

The new offerings include the Audiobooks+ Plan and the Audiobooks+ for Plan Members.

Audiobooks+ Plan

The Audiobooks+ Plan, priced at an additional $11.99 per month for Premium Individual subscribers, adds 15 extra hours of audiobook listening each month on top of the 15 hours already included with Premium. This is designed for avid audiobook listeners needing more hours.

Audiobooks+ for Plan Members

For the first time in the U.S., Family and Duo plan managers can purchase the Audiobooks+ add-on and share the additional 15 hours monthly audiobook listening with other members of their household plans. Plan members can request access from the plan manager, who can also buy one-time 10-hour top-ups if members run out of listening hours before the next billing cycle.

Previous Audiobook Offerings

Before this launch, Spotify's audiobook service in the U.S. included 15 audiobook listening hours per month only for the individual Premium subscriber, without sharing to other family or duo members. This expansion follows similar rollouts in multiple international markets, including the U.K., Canada, Ireland, Australia, and several European countries, since mid-2025.

Background

In 2022, Spotify acquired Findaway, a world-renowned audiobook distributor, signalling its intent to compete in the audiobook market. The new audiobook plans aim to attract more listeners and help publishers and authors reach new audiences.

The new Audiobooks+ expansion highlights Spotify's strategy to compete in the audiobook market by adding more hours and family sharing options. Spotify's audiobook service operates differently from Audible, another major player in the audiobook market.

Michael Kozlowski, who has been writing about audiobooks, e-books, and e-readers for the past eighteen years, resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
