Aspen Airport Tops US Stress List; ATL's High Volume Causes Anxiety
A new study has ranked Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) in Aspen, Colorado as the most stressful airport in the US, scoring just 4.95 out of 10. The airport, known for its short and narrow runway surrounded by mountains, suffers from average delays of 45 minutes and a cancellation rate of about 9%.
The ranking, which analysed five key factors including passenger volume, departure and arrival delays, cancellation rates, and Google ratings, placed mainly smaller regional airports in the top ten most stressful list. This contrasts with larger airports, which generally offer a less stressful experience due to better locations and more monitored schedules.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), the world's busiest airport, was an exception. Despite being one of the best connected airports globally, it lost points due to its high passenger volume and tight connection times, making it the only large airport in the top ten most stressful airports. Founded in 1925, ATL has grown significantly, handling over 110 million passengers annually.
The new ranking highlights the challenges faced by smaller airports, with Aspen/Pitkin County Airport topping the list due to its unique geographical constraints. Meanwhile, ATL's inclusion in the top ten underscores the stress-inducing nature of high passenger volumes and tight connection times, even for well-connected hubs.
