Arx Robotics enhances Series A funding to a total of 42 million euros
In a significant move for the European defense sector, Arx Robotics, a Munich-based company founded by former officers of the German Armed Forces, has announced a €31 million funding round led by HV Capital. This investment will support Arx Robotics' strategy to expand production capacity, form strategic partnerships, and develop software-centric, modular platforms for autonomous unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
The company's approach is twofold. First, Arx Robotics aims to establish multiple production facilities across Europe, strategically located to support the increased scale of manufacturing autonomous combat vehicles. Second, the company will form partnerships with industrial leaders like RENK and Daimler, leveraging their existing capacities, expertise, and supply chain advantages to strengthen local production capabilities and support reindustrialisation efforts in Europe's defense sector.
Arx Robotics is also focusing on developing a software-defined, modular hardware and AI-driven software architecture, notably their proprietary ARX Mithra OS. This approach allows for high adaptability and integration, leading to scalable and technologically sovereign defense solutions. The company is investing heavily in talent, particularly in AI, autonomy, software, and systems integration, to enable rapid hardware innovation and advanced autonomous functionalities essential for future European defense requirements.
Arx Robotics' systems are already in active use by six European armed forces, including operations in Ukraine, underscoring a validated product-market fit that informs their scaling and production strategy. The company's mission is to develop intelligent, autonomous ground systems for modern military applications, with a focus on software-driven systems that offer high integration capabilities.
The funding round was also participated by Speedinvest, who led the extension of Arx Robotics' Series A funding round. Andreas Schwarzenbrunner, General Partner at Speedinvest, explained that Arx Robotics is strategically positioned to strengthen Europe's defense capabilities and technological sovereignty. Indeed, Arx Robotics is seen as a prime example of the key companies emerging in the field of tension between security-relevant infrastructure, technological innovation, and geopolitical reality.
With this funding, Arx Robotics is poised to significantly strengthen Europe's defense capabilities and technological sovereignty through software-defined, unmanned systems and autonomous vehicles based on European technology. The company's integrated approach, combining expanding physical manufacturing footprint across Europe with strategic partnerships and software-defined, modular vehicle platforms, will enable rapid, affordable, and sovereign European production of autonomous unmanned combat vehicles at scale.
