FBI Awards Leidos $130 Million Contract for CJIS Biometric Services Program
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has selected Leidos to support its Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division's Fingerprint Analysis Support Team (FAST) Biometric Services program. The agreement, worth $129.7 million, will span five and a half years.
The primary objective of this contract is to modernize and strengthen the FBI's biometric identification capabilities. This partnership with Leidos underscores the FBI's commitment to advancing federal law enforcement technology infrastructure.
Under the contract, Leidos will continue to collaborate with the FBI in developing, integrating, and maintaining the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system. This system serves as the FBI's cutting-edge biometric identification platform, providing a unified electronic repository for biometric and criminal history information.
The NGI system is utilized by state, local, federal, and tribal authorities. Leidos will employ agile operations and collaborate closely with the FBI's test, verification, and validation (TVV) teams to ensure swift improvements and the incorporation of new features.
Notable features of the NGI system include a repository designed for individuals of special concern and a Rap Back Service. The former enhances the identification of high-risk individuals, while the latter alerts authorized agencies about new criminal activity involving individuals in positions of public trust.
The contract will last for five and a half years, with a total value of $129.7 million, often rounded to $130 million in news coverage. This partnership underscores the FBI's ongoing commitment to leveraging advanced biometrics and agile development practices to provide the nation's criminal justice community with robust, efficient, and secure access to essential identification services.
