Apple is rumored to be preparing a new product update, according to recent reports
Apple Set to Release Updated High-End External Monitor in Early 2026
Apple is gearing up to launch a new high-end external monitor, internally codenamed J427, according to reports by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The new monitor is expected to debut alongside new Macs powered by M5 chips in early 2026.
The new monitor, if released, will be several years after the current Apple Studio Display, which was launched in 2019. The Studio Display retails at $1,599 and features a 27-inch 5K Retina display, 5120-by-2880 resolution, and 600 nits brightness.
While the details about the new monitor are still scarce, it is rumored to have the same screen size and similar design as the 2022 Studio Display monitor. Some speculate that it might be a successor to the Pro Display XDR, Apple's top-tier 6K professional monitor, but it is yet unclear if it will carry the Pro Display XDR name or a different branding.
The Pro Display XDR, released in 2019, is targeted towards professional setups, not everyday consumers. It retails at $5,000 and boasts features such as 1,600 nits peak brightness, nano-texture glass option, and a 6K Retina LCD. However, it has not been updated since its release.
Rumors also suggest Apple is working on multiple new displays using Apple Silicon to improve performance, and one of these might be a "Studio Display Pro" or a new equivalent high-end model. If released, the new monitor will be competing with some of the best gaming monitors in the market.
It is important to note that no official confirmation or detailed specs have been announced by Apple as of mid-2025. The stand for the Pro Display XDR is sold separately for $999.
The iPhone SE 4, another highly anticipated product from Apple, is just a few days from launch. Apple is also reportedly working on several hardware projects, including reported robots, but no information about these projects has been confirmed by the company.
