Apple is reportedly planning to postpone the release of the upcoming MacBook Pro model.
In a recent report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple has confirmed a delay in the launch of the new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models. Initially anticipated for the end of 2025, the updated devices are now expected to be released in the first half of 2026[1][2].
The delay comes as Apple continues to innovate and push the boundaries of technology. The new models will feature the M5 chip, Apple's next-generation desktop classic Apple Silicon chipset, which has not been released as of 2025.
The M4 chip, Apple's previous desktop classic Apple Silicon chipset, was launched ahead of the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in May 2024. Following its release, the M4 was used in the seventh generation of the iPad Pro and later in the M4 MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro Max, and MacBook Pro Max, which were launched in the fall of 2024[3].
The demand for artificial intelligence and Apple's push for local data processing is driving the update of Mac hardware. Annual updates of the MacBook Pro hardware are expected due to the annual update cycle of the Apple operating system and Apple Silicon chipsets[4].
It's worth noting that the iPhone does not follow the same annual schedule for hardware updates as the MacBook Pro. Apple is planning to release the new iPhone 17 family in September, as per usual[5].

The MacBook Pro M2, which was previously delayed, was eventually launched in January 2023[7]. There were expectations for the release of the MacBook M5 family in October 2025, potentially with the iPad Pro arriving at the same time[8]. However, these plans have now been adjusted, with the new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models expected to be released in 2026.

In the face of continuous advancements in technology, Apple has decided to postpone the release of its new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models, originally scheduled for the end of 2025, to the first half of 2026. Although smartphones like the iPhone fall outside the changed timeline, the delay in the launch of these Mac gadgets – MacBook Pro M5, MacBook Air M5, and the new MacBook models – stems from the unveiling of Apple's next-generation desktop classic Apple Silicon chipset, the M5, which was not introduced by 2025. Besides these devices, other gadgets like the iPad Pro that leverage Apple's cutting-edge technology are also anticipated to make their appearance sometime in the future.
