Anthropic Names Rahul Patil as New CTO Amidst Growing Infrastructure Needs
Anthropic, the AI company behind the popular Claude products, has appointed Rahul Patil as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Patil, who previously served as CTO of Stripe, joined Anthropic earlier this week, succeeding co-founder Sam McCandlish, who transitions to the role of Chief Architect.
Patil brings over two decades of engineering experience, having held senior roles at tech giants like Oracle, Amazon, and Microsoft. Daniela Amodei, Anthropic's President, praised Patil's appointment, highlighting his ability to build dependable systems. As CTO, Patil will oversee critical engineering operations, including compute, infrastructure, and inference teams.
Anthropic is restructuring its core technical organization, aligning product-engineering, infrastructure, and inference teams. This comes amidst growing popularity of its Claude products, which has strained the company's infrastructure, leading to new rate limits for Claude Code and Opus. Patil's appointment is expected to help manage and scale these growing demands.
Rahul Patil's appointment as CTO at Anthropic signals a strategic move to strengthen the company's technical leadership. With Patil's extensive experience and Daniela Amodei's confidence in his abilities, Anthropic is well-positioned to navigate its growing infrastructure needs and continue innovating in the AI space. Meanwhile, Sam McCandlish, in his new role as Chief Architect, will focus on pre-training and large-scale model development, both reporting to Amodei.
